I assume you know Cary Grant was gay. His lover in his early Hollywood years was a handsome dude named Randolph Scott who became a big cowboy/western star. They were very much a couple and were seen everywhere together for several years, even during their so-so marriages to women.

One of the great gay stories is when Cary Grant was married to Barbara Hutton, at that time the richest woman in the world, they had a terrible fight when Barbara walked into their bedroom and found Cary blowing a gorgeous young guy. When Barbara objected, Cary threatened to run away with the guy who in turn threatened to expose Cary as gay. They made a deal. If Barbara would hire the guy as a driver for beaucoup bucks per month, Cary would stick around. Things went well until one day Cary saw the car parked behind the house and found the guy giving head to Barbara in the back seat, whereupon Cary stormed out of the marriage threatening to expose Barbara for having an affair with their chauffeur.
The final word on Cary Grant's being gay came from the great sex symbol, Mae West, who was notorious for fucking her leading men. She "discovered" Cary Grant and made him a star. Years later, she was asked if she had an affair with him. "Hell, no!" she said. "He was a homosexual! Why would I waste my time?"

Ben Boxer says: Every vote for the Republican ticket is a nail in the coffin of human rights for everyone. I am not a Democrat, and I find much of their politicizing as egregious as I find the Republicans, but they are the lesser of the two great evils which have corrupted the American political system almost beyond repair. I have listened to both sides battling on talk shows and in the press this season, and no matter how hard I struggle against the impulse, I find myself on the point of retching whenever a self-righteous man or woman on the Republican side expresses an opinion about us. They are more than universally misinformed. They are perpetrators of lies which would wipe us off the face of the earth if they could. But they won't, no matter how hard they try. Why? Because no matter how lily-livered or frightened of exposure any of us may be, the time has come to stand where we are and not to budge despite anyone or anything that tries to shove us backward in retrograde steps. And if Gore wins, the heat must never let up on him to DO SOMETHING to assure us of equal rights! Nothing less than success will be acceptable. The rights to marry, to adopt, to work, to be free and open in this society, etc., should be ours in equal proportion to that found on the plate of every Psalm-singing, racially bigoted and gay-bashing citizen-sonuvabitch in the USA today.

Clinton to gays: Gore is your friend

(The Advocate, 11/02/00)

Text:
President Clinton told gay and lesbian attendees at a fund-raiser Wednesday night that Vice President Al Gore is a strong supporter of gay rights and would be much friendlier to gays and lesbians than Gore's Republican rival, George W. Bush. "The vice president supported everything I did for this community,'' Clinton told about 50 gay and lesbian leaders. "I hope, for what it's worth, 100% of your community will know that on Election Day.'' The fund-raiser, which required a minimum $10,000 donation, was organized by the Democratic National Committee and the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council.

Meanwhile, an antigay group has run an ad in a Tennessee newspaper claiming that Gore has abandoned his hometown's values to support gay rights. The Americans for Truth PAC placed the ad in the Carthage Courier to highlight what the group says is Gore's support for "almost the entire homosexual political program." The ad cites a letter that Gore wrote to Scouting for All founder Steven Cozza, who has been fighting to overturn the Boy Scouts of America's antigay policies. AFTPAC president Michael Johnston, an "ex-gay," says that Gore "has embraced an agenda that gets him a lot of campaign donations and the approval of Hollywood and media elites, but he has left the truth behind." The director of AFTPAC is Peter LaBarbera, the publisher of the "Lambda Report," an antigay newsletter.
