-Gays...in Ballet
---------------------------------------------------------------------- The list must be interminable, but I would like to mention Serge Diaghilev, impresario of the Ballets Russes, a sensation in the early years of last century; Vaslav Nijinsky, his extraordinary dancer and lover, fired from the company when he married (in Buenos Aires, my home town!) Romola de Pulszky, a fellow dancer. Nijinsky later on became insane and left a very strange, fascinating diary which he wrote in his last years. More recently, Maurice Bijart, outstanding choreographer, creator of Ballet du XXe Sihcle in Brussels - and who has the most extraordinary, piercing blue eyes. Wish I had a pic. Jorge Donn, an Argentine, was one of his principal dancers in many memorable roles. There's a riveting performance on video of Ravel's "Boliro" in Bijart's choreography where Donn is surrounded by a large group of male dancers and - cannibalized? Strongly recommended. Other notable dancers among many - Rudolf Nureyev, whose defection from Russia during a Kirov Ballet tour in Paris in 1961 made the worldwide news. He had an outstanding partnership of many years with the lovely Margot Fonteyn. Nureyev died of AIDS in 1993. Julio Bocca, another Argentine, currently a principal dancer of the American Ballet theatre, extremely gifted. Etc., etc.

Found one, pity it's not color. For any not following the gay ballet thread,
he's a choreographer with piercing eyes...
I've been reading the recent messages about gay men in music and
writing. A very interesting book that details who is gay, who may
have
been gay, and who probably was gay (but nobody had the never to tell
him) is called "The New Gay Book of Lists" by Leigh W. Rutledge. The
book is easy to read and very entertaining. Just thought you might
like to know.
Edward Albee, Julian Schnabel (?), Aelred of Rivaulx (seems very
likely). Sent to me by a friend in France: I found this page with a quick suggestion of their
relationship in Europe :
An interesting and informative site (at least for me), go
check it out: For those of you on the list who love that Texan actor, Barry Corbin (b. 1940), the guy who played cigar-chompin' Durwood Arnspringer in "Honkytonk Man," the General in "War Games," and the retired sheriff Harv in "Critters 2: The Main Course," etc., here's his website --- chock-full of pics 'n audioclips! Enjoy!
Hugs,
Let's not forget J. Edgar Hoover and his lover Clyde Tolson. And then
there's Roy Cohen, Sen. Joe McCarthy's legal cousel who lived a very closeted
life and died of AIDS. More recently there's Donna Scahlella (Sp?)
Secretary, Health and Human Services in the Clinton Administration. And
we're still trying to get definite word on Janet Reno, Attorney General.
Consensus is she's a member of our family. I've read that three prominent symphony conductors are gay....any confirmation? Michel Tilson Thomas (San Francisco), Seiji Ozawa (bisexual) (Boston Symphony) and Eije Oue (Minnesota Orchestra). The two Japanese conductors might have been products of Bernstein's casting couch. Also the late conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra and New York Philharmonic Demetri Metropolis (incorrect spelling I'm sure) most certainly was gay.
