Subject: CR Gathering & Cruise

Dear List,
Just a short report on what some friends and I have been doing for the last ten days:

The CR convention was held at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida from June 1 to 4, followed by a cruise in the Western Caribbean, ending on June 8. Both the Gathering and the Cruise were great for me. The CR group is my extended family, so it was like an annual family reunion. The eye candy for my taste was fabulous, unbelievable really, new guys as well as others whom I have known at gatherings for years. The seminar I enjoyed most was a brilliant one hour illustrated presentation by Patrick Tan, a handsome and witty English urologist, about the advantages of keeping your foreskin and the rarely encountered medical indications of when it is better to remove it.

The musical presentations by CR professionals Ken Dray and Joe DeBenedictis and others were hauntingly beautiful. I regret that time and energy limitations kept me from some of the other seminars and entertainment. My age is showing more and more, but even so, that is so much better than the alternative.

Early in the cruise, a one act play written by our own list owner and excellent author, Ben Boxer, was well received by our small group. His one liners were hilarious, and at one point I thought the uproar of the laughing was going to sink the ship.

Throughout the cruise, with our much smaller cruise group of 67 (versus more than 1,000 at the hotel based gathering), we found greater opportunities to become much better acquainted with each other. The high point for me was at the end of the cruise when Mark Haury (a sweet younger man) and Francis Acre (a sweet older man) celebrated their 10th anniversary. The Maitre d' held a decorated cake in his hands for them to blow out the candle (no problem for such experienced blowers), then they kissed surrounded by our crowd of over 60 in front of a full dining room while we sang "Happy Anniversary" for them. I doubt that the Maitre d' has done that before, or that the many hetroids in the dining room had seen such a celebration before.

At the gathering and on the cruise, I remain impressed by the quality of love this large group of men demonstrated for one another. I am very proud of the CR crowd. The naysayers are often correct in their criticisms, but I am looking at a balanced picture, and that picture is very impressive.
