---------------------------------------------------------------------- Payday A man left for work one Friday afternoon. But it was payday, so instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend partying with the boys and spending his entire pay check. When he finally appeared at home on Sunday night, he was confronted by his angry wife and was barraged for nearly two hours with a tirade befitting his actions. Finally his wife stopped the nagging and said to him, "How would you like it if you didn't see me for two or three days?" He replied, "That would be fine with me."
Monday went by and he didn't see his wife. Tuesday and
Wednesday came and went with the same results. But on
Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could
see her a little out of the corner of his left eye. Dear List. A short time ago, when Ben had a really good piece on the French Royal Family, someone on this list mentioned the book "Citizens" by Schama as a good book on the situation in France prior to the French revolution and on the revolution itself. I checked our local library and discovered that there was a copy in every brance of the system. That seemed like a good recommendation too so I have followed it up. I thought that I knew who recommended it but that person tells me that it was someone else. I am enjoying the book and I want to thank you, who ever it was, who suggested to book. It 's a goodie; informative and readable.
NOTE from Ben Boxer: The book you mention was suggested
by Richard in DC richwsbtm@hotmail.com who wrote about it in a charming piece
called "More French stuff!" which you can re-read in our online Digest 279
